When you turn on your radio in your home or in the car and you hear a woman’s voice coming out of the speakers, perhaps you are going to start singing along or even dancing to the beat of her musical talents. 10. Beyonce

She was born Beyonce Giselle Knowles-Carter on September 4, 1981 in Houston, Texas and has since become both a recording artist and an actress. While growing up she performed in singing and dancing competitions until the late 1990s when she became the lead singer of Destiny’s Child which was managed by her father and became one of the world’s best selling girl groups. This got her name in lights and when the band split up in 2005 Beyonce continued to go forward with her career solo. She released her fifth studio album “Beyonce” in 2013 and it was critically acclaimed as well as different from her other albums. It is purely experimental and darker than her previous albums.

9. Taylor Swift

Taylor Alison Swift was born on December 13, 1989 and she is a singer/songwriter from Wyomissing, Pennsylvania. She moved to Nashville, Tennessee at 14 to focus on starting her musical career. She wanted to become country music star and signed with the independent label Big Machine Records. She then became the youngest songwriter to ever be hired by Sony/ATV Music Publishing House. Her release of a self-titled album in 2006 got her name in the hearts of many fans especially when her third single, “Our Song” made her the youngest person to write and perform a number one hit on the Hot Country Songs chart. She also received the Best New Artist nomination at the Grammy Awards in 2008. Since then she has sold over 26 million albums, 75 million digital single downloads and tried her hand successfully as an actress as well as a philanthropist.

8. Katy Perry

The American recording artist, philanthropist, businesswoman and actress who we know and love as Katy Perry, was born Katheryn Elizabeth “Katy” Hudson on October 25, 1984 near Santa Barbara, California. She had very little exposure to pop while growing up so she at first explored having a career as a gospel music singer as a teen. However, pop is what truly got her name in the mainstream when she signed with Capitol Records in 2007 and released her single “I Kissed a Girl”. Katy has since soared to the top of the charts on many occasions and has accumulated several awards and nominations. She has even been dubbed 2012s Woman of the Year by Billboard because to date she is the only artist to have ever spent 69 consecutive weeks within the Billboards top ten of the Hot 100. As of November 2013 she has sold more than 11 million albums and 81 million singles worldwide and there is no reason to think that she is ready to slow down yet.

7. Lorde

Lorde was born on November 7, 1996 as Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O’Connor in Takapuna, New Zealand. She was very active in singing and drama classes while growing up until she finally signed with Universal at the age of 13. Her first musical debut was an EP which was entitled “The Love Club” in 2012. Her first single was released soon after and it was not long before Lorde was a common household name thanks to her single, “Royals” which debuted at number one in New Zealand on their Top 40 list. It also reached number one in the US’s Billboard Hot 100. She is the first New Zealand solo artist to achieve the feat of having a number one in the USA. The release of her debut album “Pure Heroine” in September 13, 2013 has received critical acclaim and a lot of commercial success so far.

6. Adele

Adele Laurie Blue Adkins was born on May 5, 1988 and she has since become a multi-instrumentalist, musician, songwriter and singer. She got her name at first due to a friend of hers who posted a demo on Myspace in 2006 and she accepted an offer from XL Recordings. The next year she received a Brit Award “Critics’ Choice and won the BBC Sound of 2008 along with the release of her debut album “19”. This debut album received both critical and commercial success. She is the first female to have three singles reach top ten of the Billboard Hot 100 at the same time as a lead artist. She is also the first female to have two albums within the top five on the Billboard 200 as well as two singles on the Hot 100 all at the same time.

5. Rihanna

Singing sensation Robyn Rihanna Fenty was born on February 20, 1988 in St. Michael, Barbados and has become a fashion designer, actress and a recording artist. The start of her career took place when she met Evan Rogers when introduced through mutual friends during the later part of 2003. They created demo tapes and sent them out which lead to her signing a contract. She signed with DefJam Recordings and captured the attention of its president after auditioning for him, the well known rapper Jay-Z. Her debut album “Music of the Sun” was released in 2005 which was followed up in 2006 by “A Girl Like Me”. Both reached the top 10 on the Billboard 200. In 2012 she released “Unapologetic” and it became her first Billboard 200 number one album. She has won seven Grammy’s, eight American Music Awards, two BRIT Awards, and 22 Billboard Music Awards. She has sold over 30 million albums and 120 million singles worldwide and was dubbed fourth most powerful celebrity by Forbes in 2012.

4. Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lynn Muniz or J.Lo was born in 1969. After a minor role in 1986 in the film “My Little Girl” she discovered her passion for the entertainment industry. Her first high profile job was on In Living Color in 1991 where she remained until 1993 when she wanted to pursue other acting roles. Her first leading movie role was “Selena” in 1997. Music became her next endeavor in 1999 when she released her first studio album “On the 6”. In 2001 her second album “J.Lo” and her film “The Wedding Planner” both released at the same time and she became the first person to have an album and a movie in the number one position during the same week. Between dancing, acting, singing, fashion designing, fragrances, producing, and all the other things she has going for her, there is no way that she is settling down in 2018.

3. Shakira

Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll was born February 2, 1977. She is a Columbian singer/songwriter, record producer, choreographer, model and a dancer. She was born and raised in Barrangquilla where she attended a performing school and learned her belly dancing abilities. Her first studio albums “Magia” and “Peligro” released in the early 90s and they failed to reach commercial success. However, since then she has made up for it. Her fifth album which she released to the English language market in 2001 “Laundry Service” sold over 20 million copies worldwide mostly due to its lead single “Whenever, Wherever”. in 2018 with the release of her tenth album named simple “Shakira” there is no way she is going to slow down.

2. Nicki Minaj

Nicki was born Onika Tanya Maraj on December 8, 1982. Her debut album “Pink Friday” was released and peaked at number 1 on the US Billboard 200 in 2010. It was also certified platinum by the RIAA. “Super Bass” which is the most successful single off that album has been certified 8x platinum and it alone has sold over 4 million copies. It was also during this time that she had seven singles on Billboards Hot 100 at the same time making her the first female singer to ever achieve this feat. in 2018 she will be making her acting debut in a film called “The Other Woman”.

1. Lady Gaga

On March 28, 1986 Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta was born and since then she has become a name that is known in most households. She signed on with her first recording label, Streamline Records, in 2007 as an imprint of Interscope Records and she has not slowed since. Her first album “The Fame” debuted in 2008 and was both a critical and commercial success and it was followed in November 2009 by her extended play “The Fame Monster” which received a similar success. By November 2013 she had already sold about 24 million albums and 125 million singles worldwide and her singles are considered the best selling worldwide. She has a received a lot of awards for her talents and her name often appears in Forbes magazine on various lists which proves her growing and continued success. She has also been voted one of the most influential people in the world by Time magazine.

Love these ladies or not, there is no denying that they are going to be the top 10 most popular female singers in 2018. There is far too much energy and appeal to them to expect anything less.
